Position Summary

The Unaccompanied Children (UC) Transitional Foster Care (TFC) Teacher Assistant is primarily responsible for assisting the classroom teacher in the planning, organizing, and implementation of the instructional program in a preschool, elementary, or secondary learning environment. This position must function in a manner that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.

 

Spanish Speaking Bilingual ability required.

Hourly Wage: $16.00 Hourly

Essentials Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in the planning, preparation, and delivery of lesson plans, tests and instructional materials that facilitate active learning in accordance with established procedures. 
  • Assists with the instruction and monitoring of students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
  • Effectively uses relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Effectively manages student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
  • Maintains discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the program.
  • Provides student's the appropriate feedback on work.
  • Encourages and monitors the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
  • Updates all necessary records accurately and completely in alignment with Office of Refugee Reinstatement (ORR) requirements.
  • Participates in school activities, as well as staff and treatment team meetings.
  • Supervises children during field trips and in the classroom.
  • Communicates necessary information regularly to Case Manager, Therapist, foster parents, and the assigned supervisor regarding student progress, concerns, or needs.
  • Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Assists the teacher in the delivery of classroom activities.
  • Provides a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
  • Assists or leads preschool classroom if necessary.
  • Serves as a backup to the teacher and providing instructions to students.
  • Assists the teacher with creating lesson plans and classroom curriculum.

  • Ability to demonstrate high motivation and self-management.
  • Ability to provide excellent and compassionate customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgement, and a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate computer and typing skills sufficient to perform essential job functions.

Recommended Employment Qualifications

Education:

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • A bachelor's degree in Education is strongly preferred.

Experience:

  • A minimum of one year experience teaching English Language Learning (ELL)/English Secondary Language (ESL) is strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English fluency required.
  • A minimum of one year experience working with children and families from diverse cultures with sensitivity to cultural difference and norms required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Valid CPR, First Aid, and AEC certified upon hire or within 60 days of hire.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
