Position Summary

This position will be responsible for planning, cooking, and or directing food preparation for all of God’s Kitchen’s food programs. Staff will follow all ServSafe regulations and guidelines for God’s Kitchen Commercial Kitchen as well as making sure that volunteers adhere to all aspects of the current food code. The Staff member will be expected to be directly involved with the operation and transportation of a food trailer, which will provide the services of God's Kitchen to the greater West Michigan region. Flexible scheduling will be expected.

 

Wage Range: $15.00 - $17.50 Hourly

Essentials Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists Executive Chef in preparing and cooking well balanced and nutritional meals for clients being served.
  • Prepares food in accordance with planned menu.
  • Prepares food in large quantities.
  • Handles food in sanitary manner, including receipt, preparation, and storage.
  • Monitors food handling safety standards, food production, and quality of distributed meals.
  • Follows all health department regulations.
  • Follows all Serve Safe Guidelines for God's Kitchen's Commercial Kitchen
  • Maintains Serve Safe certification.
  • Ensures front of the house furnishings are safe and clean for daily use.
  • Maintain all product orders and ensure the accuracy of received goods.
  • Responsibly for CCWM monthly safety inspections.
  • Keeps record and tracks meals served
  • Assists in insuring the proper storage of food items
  • Assists in maintaining the central kitchen food and supplies inventory
  • Maintains kitchen equipment in accordance with safety and sanitation regulations
  • Uses products donated or available in a creative and healthy way
  • Serving clients compassionately with dignity and respect
  • Assists with supervision of volunteers and community service workers.
  • Promotes a safe and secure environment.
  • Acquires food and pantry resources in a fiscally responsible manner, utilizing appropriate donations as available.
  • Collaborates with community outreach program staff, agency staff, and external community partners to foster positive relationships.
  • Maintains kitchen equipment in accordance with safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Uses products donated or available in a creative and healthy way.
  • Keeps assigned work area well organized and clean.
  • Cleans, mops, and empties waste when assigned or as needed.
  • Cleans, sanitizes, and ensures equipment is maintained in good working order.
  • Notifies supervisor when repairs or replacements are needed.
  • Drives for Agency business.
  • Performs other special assignments at Supervisor’s request.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to follow all health department regulations
  • Ability to read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to successfully complete State of Michigan required food safety audits/tests
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all who enter God’s Kitchen and to treat all with “dignity and respect"
  • understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to effectively manage: volunteers, community service workers, interns, and or coop individuals
  • Ability to engage and contribute to “lean budgetary management"

Recommended Employment Qualifications

Education:

This position does not require the applicant to have credentials from a Culinary Arts Vocational Program, but is preferred.  A high school diploma is required. 

 

Experience:

A minimum of 2 years in food service management experience is preferred.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • A Serv/Safe certification is required within 60 days after hire.
  • A valid Michigan drivers license is required.
  • Reliable automobile with agency bodily injury limit coverage insurance requirements is required.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does have supervisory responsibilities over God's Kitchen Volunteers.
