Position Summary

This position provides sexual risk avoidance education and positive youth development to youth promoting and encouraging positive choices and alternatives that will promote a lifestyle, free from sexual activity, alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. Services may be provided during school hours after school, out of school, or summer programming. The Empowering Youth Today Mentor Leader presents the approved sexual risk avoidance educational curriculum to students enrolled in services with parental permission.  This position works in a school classroom setting.

 

 

Annual Salary Range: $38,000.00-$44,053.00

Essentials Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides weekly classroom instruction, information, and activities which promote sexual risk avoidance behaviors and positive youth development.
  • Assists youth in the development of sexual risk avoidance knowledge and positive youth development skills.
  • Completes pre/post surveys for youth, parent, and program site.
  • Completes required classroom documentation for each youth.
  • Meets quarterly with the Teen Advisory Board and participates in quarterly Coalition meetings.
  • Serves as a positive role model for youth.
  • Provides data entry/data management skills as required.
  • Repots to Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) any conditions or acts that are of present or potential danger to the youth.
  • Promotes parent child activities.
  • Develops and implements a service learning component.
  • Coordinates and facilitates monthly parent meetings.
  • Attends relevant community meetings and promotes the Empowering Youth Today.
  • Attends regional required meetings.
  • Drives for Agency business.
  • Performs other special assignments at Managers request.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of classroom management strategies.
  • Ability to deliver a sexual risk avoidance curriculum in a classroom or summer youth group setting.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Computer/database skills.
  • This position requires reliable transportation.
  • Must have a valid Michigan driver’s license, good driving record with zero work restrictions, and personal auto insurance as required by law.
  • Must be willing to work irregular hours including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
  • Must submit to Agency approved background checks.

Recommended Employment Qualifications

Education:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Health Education, Education, Human Services or a related field.

 

Experience:

A minimum of one year of prior work experience working with youth is preferred.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

none required.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
