Position Summary

The Grant Writer is responsible for researching and initiating grant opportunities. This position works closely with the Director of Development and Community Outreach in cultivating and maintaining relationships with foundations.

  • Wage Range: $22.12/hour - $26.54/hour

Essentials Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundations.
  • Facilitates research and evaluates prospects for corporate and foundation grants.
  • Works with finance to gather information necessary to report to corporate/foundation funders on current grant programs.
  • Works with staff members to obtain client stories for grant proposals and reports, as well as understands components of each program that may connect with specific funders.
  • Assists the Director of Development and Community Outreach in providing stewardship to current and prospective corporate and foundation donors.
  • Collaborates with the philanthropy team to support campaigns.
  • Ongoing other duties and special assignments assigned by supervisor on an as needed basis based on Agency demands.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Completed coursework in grant writing, fundraising or a similar program
  • Proficiency in office software tools including: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel
  • The ability to work independently as well as in partnership with team members
  • Organized and possesses the ability to multi-task

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires reliable transportation.
  • Must have a valid Michigan driver’s license, good driving record with no restrictions, and personal auto insurance as required by law.
  • Must be willing to work irregular hours including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
  • Must submit to Agency approved background checks.

Recommended Employment Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Non-Profit Management is required. Other related majors are encouraged.

Experience:

  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in grant writing, fundraising or related role is required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • None required

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
